What is Endometrial Cancer?

Endometrial cancer is also called cancer of the uterus, or uterine cancer.Endometrial cancers are the most common gynecologic cancers in the United States, with over 35,000 women diagnosed each year in the U.S. It is commonly referred to as uterine cancer, but other types of cancer do develop in the uterus, though much less often.

The most common subtype, endometrioid adenocarcinoma, typically occurs within a few decades of menopause, is associated with excessive estrogen exposure, often develops in the setting of endometrial hyperplasia, and presents most often with vaginal bleeding.

The good news is that it is usually cured when it is found early. And most of the time, the cancer is found in its earliest stage, before it has spread outside the uterus. It is most often found in the early stages, when the disease is most treatable.
