What are the Prostate Cancer Preventions?
The selective estrogen receptor modulator drug toremifene has shown promise in early trials. Two medications which block the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, finasteride and dutasteride, have also shown some promise. The use of these medications for primary prevention is still in the testing phase, and they are not widely used for this purpose.

The initial problem with these medications is that they may preferentially block the development of lower grade prostate tumors, leading to a relatively greater chance of higher grade cancers, and negating any overall survival improvement. More recent research found that finasteride did not increase the percentage of higher grade cancers.

Prostate Cancer Preventions
1. Walnuts and flaxseed, and their oils.
2. Fish, like salmon, albacore tuna, and sardines.

3. Medicines, such as finasteride or nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs.
4. Vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage.
5. Tomatoes and foods that contain tomato sauce.
6. Soy products, like tofu and soy beans.
7. Drinking red wine or green tea.

Also, most people with a particular risk factor for cancer do not actually get the disease. Some people are more sensitive than others are to factors that can cause cancer. Talk to your doctor about methods of preventing cancer that might be effective for you.
A 2008 study update found that finasteride reduces the incidence of prostate cancer by 30%. In the original study it turns that that the smaller prostate caused by finasteride means that a doctor is more likely to hit upon cancer nests and more likely to find aggressive looking cells.
Most of the men in the study who had cancer aggressive or not chose to be treated and many had their prostates removed. However, scientists have studied general patterns of cancer in the population to learn what things around us and what things we do in our lives may increase our chance of developing cancer.
Epidemiological as well as experimental data suggest a preventive role of broccoli constituents in prostate cancer. Glucosinolates and selenium are suggested as the major anticancer acting constituents of broccoli. At present, the selenium intake in Germany is at the lower end of the recommended intake thus, an increased supply of selenium and glucosinolatesy food consumption could substantially contribute to reduce prostate cancer risk.
