Obesity is considered the most common dietary crisis faced by a lot of Americans today. Both infants and children are not exempted from this grave health threat. This condition often happen when they are taking more calories than their small bodies can use. Like adults, this puts them in a very high risk of other health complications. Prevention and early detection is highly advised, since parents are mainly responsible for their child’s health. So what are the symptoms of child obesity?

To prevent obesity properly, we must know the symptoms of obesity. The prevention and management of obesity should be a priority for all, because of the considerable health benefits of maintaining a healthy weight and the health risks associated with overweight and obesity.According to the World Health Organization, more than one billion people are overweight, with nearly 300 million touching obesity. Various researches on obesity have concluded that due to an excessive combination of nutrient intake and a very placid and sedentary lifestyle, people are overweight and obese.

Does your child reach for an orange or for some candy? Do you allow your child to have dessert time any time of the day? Desserts can be great, but save those treats for after dinner. A constant choice of poor nutrition is a symptom of child obesity.Are nearly all of his or her activities centered on one spot in the house such as in front of the computer or the television? Your child may be lacking the proper vitamins he or she needs for energy and healthy growth.Does he or she lack the ability to get up early like he or she used to? Women whose body fat exceeds 30% and men whose body fat exceeds 25% are generally considered obese. Doctors may also observe the distribution of fat on the individual. Men usually develop and Apple shaped body with weight around the abdomen and waist. These individuals are generally more prone to a higher risk for cancer, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes than pear shaped females whose extra pounds settle primarily in their hips and thighs.

The most common symptoms of morbid obesity in children include disproportionate appearance of facial features and an unusually large abdomen. Boys may experience adiposity in the breast area or have exceptionally small genitals. For obese children, puberty may occur earlier than in children of normal weight.It is important to step in and take action if you suspect your child is obese, because there are many dangerous side effects and health risks. A child that is obese may have increased blood pressure and high cholesterol. These can lead to heart and liver disease. Obese children may suffer from Sleep Apnea, bone and joint problems Type 2 Diabetes and Asthma.

The support and reassurances of loved ones would make it easier for the child to deal with his/her weight problems. If you have a close relative suffering from obesity, ignoring the problem or unrepentantly teasing them will not solve the problem in any way. Early intervention is needed, not only solely directed to the child but to the parents as well. Since more than anybody else, parents should be aware of the food intake and eating attitude of the child. A long-term program is highly advised to rehabilitate both the parents and the child. This is not just the burden if the child to carry, but a family problem that needs attention and quick action.
