As with Anorexia and Bulimia, the causes of binge eating disorder are still unknown, although it is viewed by most experts as having psychological roots. It is known that up to 50 per cent of binge eating disorder sufferers have a history of depression, although this may be both a cause and/or a consequence of binge eating. Episodes of binge eating are frequently triggered by emotional feelings or reactions, and impulsive behavior patterns appear to be more common in people with binge eating disorder. Strict or forced dieting is not the answer to this condition: indeed it may even aggravate binge eating.
Binge eating disorder typically includes periods of excessive overeating. However, a person with a binge eating disorder does not subsequently induce purging (vomiting), as is the case with bulimia.Binge eating can occur on its own, or alongside other disorders or conditions, such as Prader-Willi disorder, or a lesion of the hypothalamus gland.Binge eating can encourage the development of hypertension (high blood pressure), obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Treatment options depend on what is causing the binge eating.
A person with a binge eating disorder feels compelled to eat too much. Individuals will consume enormous quantities of food, even when they are not hungry. Binge eaters believe they have absolutely no control over their eating.After a bout of binge eating the person feels disgust and guilt. This feeling of failed self may form part of an underlying problem, such as anxiety or depression – both can either cause or exacerbate the disorder.
Even the best of us occasionally overeats, helping ourselves to seconds, and even thirds; especially on holiday or festive celebrations. This is not a binge eating disorder. It becomes a disorder when the bingeing occurs regularly, and the binger is shrouded in shame and secrecy. The binger is deeply embarrassed about overeating and vows never to do it again. However, the compulsion is so strong that subsequent urges to gorge themselves cannot be resisted.
In many parts of the world binge eating disorder is not considered a distinct condition. However, it is the most common of all eating disorders. Perhaps as more research is published and scientists learn more about it, this may change.
Social and Cultural Causes of Binge Eating Disorder:Social pressure to be thin can add to the shame binge eaters feel and fuel their emotional eating. The way one is raised can also increase the risk for binge eating disorder. Some parents unwittingly set the stage for bingeing by using food to comfort, dismiss, or reward their children. Children who are exposed to frequent critical comments about their bodies and weight are also vulnerable. Another factor which has been linked to binge eating is sexual abuse in childhood.
Psychological Causes of Binge Eating Disorder:Depression and binge eating are strongly linked. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, up to half of all binge eaters are either depressed or have been before. There is further evidence that low self-esteem, loneliness, and body dissatisfaction are involved in compulsive overeating. People with binge eating disorder may also have trouble with impulse control and managing and expressing their feelings.
Biological Causes of Binge Eating Disorder:Studies show that biological abnormalities contribute to binge eating. For example, the hypothalamus (the part of the brain that controls appetite) may not be sending correct messages about hunger and fullness. Researchers have also found a genetic mutation that appears to cause food addiction. Finally, there is evidence that low levels of the brain chemical serotonin play a role in compulsive eating.
Causes Of Binge Eating
1.The Spike:Large amounts of food will cause your insulin to spike in which you’ll grow tired and in slump.
2.It’s Easy:To succeed is hard but to eat yourself till you fall asleep is effortlessly.
3.Temporary Comfort:When you overeat you are feel just for that time your eating. But next time before you do think about how you’ll fell after.
4.Artificial Sweeteners:Some sweeteners increase sugar levels which can cause you to feel worst!
5.The Uncontrollable Mind:A lot of people think they think but instead their mind is just busy, moving with the world. Stop and think.
6.Lack Of Progress:Remember desires become reality when you go out and prove your worthy of them everyday! You never know you could be quitting on the day it all comes together!
7.Poor Social Life:You know for most emotional eaters, a poor social life occurs because they hide from it, not because lack of acceptance!
8.Shame:Whatever it is you can overcome it. Regain your confidence and step back out in full faith!
9.Giving In To Foods That Taste Great:Man sometimes it’s good and you can’t let go. But keep in mind we eat for energy and I think that’s what’s forgotten.
The causes, largely unknown, seem to tickle the scientists and layman alike. Psychiatric disorders such as depression, substance abuse, and anxiety disorders are in tandem with this disorder. The reasons for this differ with a person’s ability to deal with any associated emotional pressue from within the family or at work. Often people think that binge eating makes them masters of their moods; on the contrary, it is the reverse with moods controlling them. Potent triggers for binge eating are getting overtly hungry, and a feeling of deprivation and sometimes desperation.
