What is Jalandhara Bandha? | Jalandhara Bandha | Bandha Jalandhara

This position is very useful in holding an Empty Pause, for the pressure of the chin against the chest pushes the base of the tongue and the larynx up into the pharynx and against the palate, thus providing aid in resisting the pressure caused by the vacuum in the Lungs. Jalandhara Bandha is the chin lock, one of the three internal locks or Bandhas described and employed in Hatha Yoga. It is performed by dropping the head slightly so that the chin is tucked close to the chest and the tongue pushes up against the palate in the mouth.

Sit in Padmasana or in any comfortable meditative posture.Bend your neck a little forward.Sit in a comfortable pose.Firm your shoulder blades against your back torso to lift your sternum. Be careful not to push your front ribs forward. Slowly place firmly your chin on chest so that when you practise Pranayama with Kumbhaka, the inside retained air must not come out. While returning, slowiy raise your chin and straighten your neck.

Many beginners make the mistake of only lowering the chin in fact your chin should be met half way by the elevated sternum.Draw this crook diagonally up and into your skull. Your head should pivot and your chin should descend over this action, which simultaneously draws the top of the sternum upward.

The pressure on the Carotid Sinus also helps in lowering blood pressure and this posture, when done by hypertension patients, can help them tackle their health problems.Beginner`s are advised to practise this Bandha for a few seconds only initially. If you’re a beginner, don’t hold this bandha continuously throughout your practice. Begin your inhalation with your head upright. Apply Jalandhara as you near the end of the inhale, hold during the retention and the exhale, then raise your head to a neutral position for the next inhale.

Benefits of Jalandhara Bandha

1.Protects the brain, eyes, and inner ears from the internal pressure of the retained breath.

2.This Bandha influences our vocal organs directly.

3.Prevents the retained breath from “leaking out” of the torso through the throat.

Suryan Bhedan Pranayama Yoga | Suryan Bhedan | Pranayama for Suryan Bhedan

This is a breathing technique in which air is drawn into the lungs through the right nostril and out through the left. These Breathing Techniques or Pranayamas are designed to allow the free flow of energy in the body and to purify the body’s energy channels called nadis. The practice of Pranayama also ensures that every cell in the body receives oxygen and nutrients.Surya Bhedan aims at piercing and arousing the Pingaia Nadi.

Surya means sun, referring to the right nostril which is the path of the Pingala Nadi. This arouses that part of the brain which is the source of Purusha Shakti. In other words, this Pranayama arouses and increases the latent powers of a person. It provides heat to the body and purifies blood. Its regular practice increases the red corpuscles in the blood significantly, and provides relief in the dreadful disease of leprosy.

Breathe in though the right nostril.Breathe out through the left nostril. Allow the exhalation to be longer than the inhalation.Place the first two fingers of your right hand on the middle of the eyebrow and close the left nostril with the third finger. Inhale deeply and quickly through your right nostril. Now close the right nostril also with your thumb and do Antrik Kumbhaka. Perform all the three Bandhas also.

It increases the body temperature, which removes the Kafa imbalance. This is very effective in obesity. Regular practice of Right nostril breath is used for weight loss.Prana increases in the body, increasing the vitality.Close the left nostril with the right index finger. Now inhale audibly through the right nostril. Fill your lungs. Retain breath and while doing Jalandhara Bandha hold on comfortably as long as possible.

Close the left nostril with the right index finger. Now inhale audibly through the right nostril. Fill your lungs. Retain breath and while doing Jalandhara Bandha hold on comfortably as long as possible.Breathe in though the right nostril.Hold after inhalation.Exhale out through the left nostril.Hold after exhalation for a few seconds.People who have undergone abdominal surgeries, heart surgeries, brain sugeries should consult the medical expert or consultant. Please do not rush to increase the proportions, as it will not help, but trying to practice easy ratio for little more time may help.

Benefits:

1.The practice of Surya Bhedana Pranayam, increases the flow of gall and reduces phlegam and gas.

2.It gives energy and increases body warmth. It purifies the blood and increases and improves the digestion. It delays the onset of old age.

Nadi Shuddhi Pranayama | Nadi Shuddhi Pranayama Yoga | Pranayama Yoga for Nadi Shuddhi

Using either hand, first stretch out your fingers and then bend in your middle and index finger. The thumb and ring fingers are going to be used to close the nostrils alternately to breathe in through one nostril and out through the other.Sit erect. Be calm and close your eyes. Close the right nostril with the right thumb. Now inhale slowly through the left nostril and fill your lungs. After complete inhalation, press the left nostril with the ring finger of the right hand and close the left nostril.

Open the right nostril, exhale slowly. After complete exhalation, again inhale through the right nostril and fill your lungs. Close the right nostril by pressing it with the right thumb. After opening the left nostril, breathe out slowly. With the right thumb, close the right nostril and slowly inhale through the left without making any sound for as long as you can with comfort. After complete inhalation, close the left nostril with the ring and little fingers and exhale very slowly taking a longer period of time through the right.

The duration of exhalation will be double that of inhalation. Now open the left nostril and close the right nostril with your thumb and breathe out.Keeping the left nostril open, breathe in through the left nostril, then close the left nostril and breathe out through the right side. After complete exhalation, inhale through the right nostril and exhale through the left. This is one round.Practice this for 5 to 10 rounds.

As soon as you reach the top of the inhalation, immediately close the left nostril with your right ring finger, removing your thumb from the right nostril at the same time, and begin a slow, rhythmic, effortless exhalation through this nostril. Do this to the count of five. Inhale through the right nostril to the count of five. Close the right nostril with your right thumb. Exhale through the left nostril to the count of five.It might also be helpful to chant ‘Om’ while doing this exercise to use this as a meditative exercise.

Benefits for Nadi Shuddhi Pranayama Yoga:

1.Purifies the body by oxygenating the blood supply.

2.Strengthens the nervous system.

3.Improves the respiratory system.

YOGA – Swara yoga:

What is SWARA yoga ?

Swara is one of many Sanskrit words integrated into the Western world of yoga practice. Swara translates in English to musical note or sound, but as a type of yoga Swara refers to the steady breath taken in through a single nostril.Swara = Svara Yoga based on ancient manuscript “Shiva Svarodaya”, as you understand the author is Shiva himself, it is conversation of Shiva with his wife, wife Parvati is asking about creation of Universe, Shiva tells about elements and after about currents of energy in human body. This, however, is one of the things that Yoga tries to evoke among its practitioners.Taking the concept of universal union on a higher level is Swara Yoga.Translating to “sound” or “musical note,” swara also refers to the flow of air through one’s nostril.

SWARA yoga images:

Swara yoga History:

Swara Yoga is also a breathing technique, but it differs from other pranayama because it has a direct correlation with nature. Swara Yoga is the study of breathing in association with the seasons, hour of time, the positions of the planets, moon, and sun, as well as the yogi’s state of mind and being. Swara Yogi believe that upon entering a new day, one should be aware of the phase the moon is in and which nostril is breathing stronger so that one can step out of bed with the foot on the same side of the body as the dominant nostril.

Swara Yoga was reserved for those of higher power, such as kings, and was privately practiced. It is said that saints derived their knowledge directly from higher powers. The Swara Yoga practitioners felt that keeping their yoga a secret would keep the practice strong and learned only by the worthy.

All are interlinked. For example when we make some food with love or with anger the breath mixes with the food we are cooking and this makes the food positive or negative. A simple dish, when cooked with love or if special mantras are used when cooking can make a meal amazing. Whereas another meal which may normally taste great, when cooked in an angry mood, even though all the ingredients and techniques are the same, may turn out horrible. That’s why in many ashrams only those who have positive thoughts are allowed in the kitchen.

The power of thoughts travelling through the subtle breath can also be seen in the experiments by Dr Emoto. Here water crystals were studied after treated in certain ways. For example when water was held and the person was thinking I love you or I hate you. This produced different effects to the crystals. The I love you crystals were more pure whilst the I hate you crystals were not properly formed, though the same water was used. Look also at the connections between a mother and baby or long married couples. They understand what the other needs without any words.

SWARA yoga videos:

The breath flows in eleven main ways but the focus is generally on the left or right nostril. If you observe the breath at first it will seem that the air is flowing out of both nostrils simultaneously, but after some time you will begin to notice that one nostril dominates the flow of breath and also that this nostril changes. It may be left dominant, right dominant or both nostrils. The flow of breath through one nostril has a different physiological and psychological effect to the flow of breath through the other nostril. Every 1 ½ hours approximately the flow will change from one to the other, though it changes from person to person and the environment that they are in. Both nostrils are used during the in between period. This change in the swara keeps the balance of the body and mind.

The teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Sanskrit scripture of Hinduism. One of the four pillars of yoga, Karma yoga focuses on the adherence to duty while remaining detached from the reward. It states that one can experience salvation or love of God by performing their duties in an unselfish manner for the pleasure of the Supreme, which is the welfare of the world.

What is Karma Yoga:
The Sanskrit Kri, meaning ‘to do’, in its most basic sense karma simply means action, and yoga translates to union. Thus Karma yoga literally translates to the path of union through action. It is described as a way of acting, thinking and willing by which one orients oneself toward realization by acting in accordance with one’s duty without consideration of personal self-centered desires, likes or dislikes.

the Buddha to have been karma yogis. Buddha is the ideal karma yogi… acting entirely without motive, and the history of humanity shows him to have been the greatest man ever born, beyond compare, the greatest combination of Head & Heart that ever existed.

The Hindu Saint Mata Amritanandamayi says, “The beauty and charm of selfless love and service should not die away from the face of the earth. The world should know that a life of dedication is possible, that a life inspired by love and service to humanity is possible. Meditation and studying the scriptures are like two sides of a coin. The engraving on that coin is selfless service, and that is what gives it its real value. Our compassion and acts of selflessness take us to the deeper truths.
