What is JAANE SHIVDASANI?

PHOTO:<img src="http://www.dharmayogacenter.com/_images/library/asanas/Janu-Shirshasana2.jpg" alt=""alt="" WIDTH="200" HEIGHT="200" ALIGN="RIGHT" />

If you like, place a strap around the extended foot. Hold an end of the strap in each hand as you forward bend.

History of JANU SHIRHASANA :

Sit on the floor with your buttocks lifted on a folded blanket and your legs straight in front of you. Inhale, bend your right knee, and draw the heel back toward your perineum. Rest your right foot sole lightly against your inner left thigh, and lay the outer right leg on the floor, with the shin at a right angle to the left leg =if your right knee doesn’t rest comfortably on the floor, support it with a folded blanket. Or, when you are ready, you can drop the strap and reach out with your right hand to take the inner left foot, thumb on the sole. Inhale and lift the front torso, pressing the top of the left thigh into the floor and extending actively through the left heel. Use the pressure of the left hand on the floor to increase the twist to the left. Then reach your left hand to the outside of the foot.

With the arms fully extended, lengthen the front torso from the pubis to the top of the sternum. Exhale and extend forward from the groins, not the hips. Be sure not to pull yourself forcefully into the forward bend, hunching the back and shortening the front torso. As you descend, bend your elbows out to the sides and lift them away from the floor. Lengthen forward into a comfortable stretch. The lower belly should touch the thighs first, the head last. Stay in the pose anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes. Come up with an inhalation and repeat the instructions with the legs reversed for the same length of time.

Therapeutic for high blood pressure, insomnia, and sinusitis.Strengthens the back muscles during pregnancy (up to second trimester), done without coming forward, keeping your back spine concave and front torso long.Make sure the bent-leg foot doesn’t slide under the straight leg.
Broaden the top of the foot on the floor and press the heel toward the inner groin of the straight leg.A partner can help you learn about grounding the bent-leg thigh. Have your partner stand behind you and press the inner edge of his/her foot against the inner groin of your bent leg. As you lengthen forward into the pose, see if you can release the head of the thigh away from the pressure of the foot, toward the floor.

Jivamukti Yoga is one of nine internationally recognized styles of Hatha Yoga. The name Jivamukti means “liberation while living.” It is taken from the Sanskrit term, Jivanmuktih, which is used to describe the state of enlightenment or God realization.

This modern style of yoga emerged in 1984 from one of New York City’s best-known yoga studios. Founders David Life and Sharon Gannon incorporated their study of ashtanga yoga with Shri K. Pattabhi Jois with spiritual teachings, placing special emphasis on how to apply yogic philosophy to daily life. The meaning of Jivamukti yoga = liberation while living.

About JIVAMUKTI yoga:
Jivamukti Yoga, which they have been teaching out of their New York City yoga center since 1989. There are now Jivamukti centers and teachers worldwide. This style, which blends vigorous vinyasa practice with spiritual teachings, chanting, and an emphasis on how to bring yoga’s philosophy into daily life, is at the forefront of yoga’s current popularity.

The Jivamukti Yoga method is a Style of Yoga created by David Life and Sharon Gannon in 1984. It is a vigorously physical and intellectually stimulating practice leading to spiritual awareness. They promote the educational aspect of the practice and give students access to where these ideas came from. Each class focuses on a theme, which is supported by Sanskrit Chanting, readings, references to scriptural texts, music (from the Beatles to Moby), spoken word, Asana sequencing and Yogic Breathing practices. The average Jivamukti student is more educated about the philosophy of Yoga than most Yoga teachers.

The awakening of kundalini means awakening of inner knowledge.

The word ending with “i” indicates that it relates to the feminine principle and deals with a form of SHAKTI = energy and PRAKRITI = nature

KUNDA is a hole or well into which all debris and rubbish is thrown. In time the rubbish loses its original form and disintegrates into a formless mesh in which the individual components are no longer recognizable. In the similar way, our impression from earlier lives lie like an amorphous substance deep in the unconscious Muladhara Chakra.

KUNDALA means the ring (generally earing). A ring or a circle has neither beginning nor an end. It is infinite and that is why it is a symbol of creation. Cosmic energy is circling constantly; we do not know when the Universe began and how long will it last.the west relatively recently. Kundalini is one of the more spiritual types of yoga. Yoga refers to traditional physical and mental disciplines originating in India. The word is associated with meditative practices in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. In Hinduism, it also refers to one of the six orthodox schools of Hindu philosophy, and to the goal toward which that school directs its practices. In Jainism it refers to the sum total of all activities mental, verbal and physical.

Major branches of yoga in Hindu philosophy include Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Hatha Yoga. Raja Yoga, compiled in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and known simply as yoga in the context of Hindu philosophy, is part of the Samkhya tradition. Many other Hindu texts discuss aspects of yoga, including Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the Shiva Samhita and various Tantras.

The Sanskrit word yoga has many meanings, and is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj, meaning “to control”, “to yoke” or “to unite”. Translations include “joining”, “uniting”, “union”, “conjunction”, and “means”. Outside India, the term yoga is typically associated with Hatha Yoga and its asanas or as a form of exercise. Someone who practices yoga or follows the yoga philosophy is called a Yogi.

Involvement by the devotee in divine worship. The term is often translated as “devotion”, though it has been suggested that a better rendering would be participation.
Important thing of Bhakti Yoga or Devotion Yoga :
Bhakti Yoga is the path most followed in India. This is the path of the heart and devotion. Yogis who practice this branch sees the “One” or the Divine in everyone and everything. Bhakti Yoga teaches a person to have devotion to the “One” or to Brahma by developing a person’s love and acceptance for all things.

About BHAKTHI yoga:
the method of attaining God through love and the loving recollection of God. Most religions emphasize this spiritual path because it is the most natural. As with other yoga’s, the goal of the Bhakta, the devotee of God, is to attain oneness with the Divine. The Bhakta attains this through the force of love, that most powerful and irresistible of emotions. It is nothing else than following the First Commandment which says: “to love God with all your heart, mind and soul.”

This is the Yoga of selfless love, compassion, humility, purity and the desire and serious intention to merge with God. It is in our day to day life that Bhakti Yoga is truly practiced. Are we loving, compassionate and fair in our dealings with others? Jesus stated the ideal of Bhakti Yoga when he taught, “As you have loved me, love one another.
