Vrschikasana Yoga ( Scorpion Pose ) | Yoga for Vrschikasana | Vrschikasana

Vrischika means scorpion. Even though it is a rather difficult pose for beginners, the Scorpion pose is not really as tough as it looks. Make sure that you don’t get ahead of yourself however. You should not attempt it till you are comfortable with the other balancing poses, such as Vrikshasana, Ekpadasana, as well as Sirshasana.

From Forearm Stand, bend the knees.Lift your head and bring your feet close to your head as you come in to a deep backbend.Start the pose in Balasana. Next, fold your arms and place them in front of your head, around shoulder width apart. In the beginning it is better to do this pose against a wall. Position yourself in such a way that your head is around 2 3 feet away from the wall; so, you can use the wall for support, in case you lose your balance.

Next rise up into Sirshasana then lift your head from off the floor and raise it as high as you can. With a deep inhalation swing your legs up, above and behind your head carefully maintaining your balance. Take your legs all the way behind your head, flat feet pointing to the wall.Walk your feet as close as you can towards your head and gaze between your hands, not at your feet. Now lift your right leg straight up and work on taking little hops, so your left foot comes off the ground.Keep your right leg lifted and work on holding your legs in split position.

Now, bend your knees and, slowly, drop your feet towards your head. Take care not to do this too fast or drop your legs too far. Always maintain your balance. This pose will call for some strength, so don’t hold it for too long, not more than 15 to 30 seconds. Gradually, increase the length of time, as you gain more confidence with the pose.

Once you’ve found your balance, bring your legs together straight up towards the ceiling. Tucking your tailbone and ribs in will help you stay balanced. To come into scorpion from this position, slowly bend your knees as you shift your chest forward slightly. This part takes a lot of practice, so if you lose your balance, just try again. To come out of the pose gracefully take your legs back to an upright position, vertical to the floor, without falling out of the pose, and drop your head, gently to your mat, back into Sirshasana.

If your spine isn’t so bendy, you can hold Scorpion pose with your feet dangling above your head.Hold for five deep breaths and then straighten your legs and lower your feet back to the floor.Slowly come down, knees folded and relax in Balasana for half a minute or so.

Benefits for Scorpion Yoga Pose:

1.Scorpion pose provides a maximum stretch to the spine, neck and chest.

2.Strengthens the shoulders, abdominals and back improves balance

3.It combines most of the benefits of the Sirshasana.and Chakrasana.

SUKHASANA

<img src="http://www.yogaatindia.com/all%20asans/Sukhasana.gif" alt=""alt=""  WIDTH="150" HEIGHT="150" ALIGN="LEFT" />

What is SUKHASANA?

While opening the hips and lengthening the spine, its relative ease on the knees makes this posture preferable to siddhasana and padmasana for many people with physical difficulties. Nevertheless, many schools don’t consider it to be as effective for prolonged meditation sessions. As Sukhasana means in Sanskrit, sukha means pleasurable or easy and asana means posture or position. So in yoga, sukhasana technique acts like a standard position, just sitting in cross legged posture. This technique is very unique in the sense of resting your body and calming different parts of body. This technique is practiced by 95 percent of yoga students all over the world.Sukhasana is a unique technique in yoga.

SUKHASANA History:

Older bodies become more susceptible to bone fractures, high blood pressure, arthritis, and other conditions of age. Even if a person has not experienced long bouts of depression before, it may occur at this stage in life. The deaths of lifelong friends, a spousal death, and declining health are all difficult to deal with, especially if the events take place around the same time in a person’s life.

When one’s physical and mental health are in a poor condition at any time during their life, they should think about taking up yoga by attending an instructional class. There are various types of yoga to suit the needs of the millions of people involved with the practice. An instructional class for beginners is the best choice for individuals who have no experience in yoga and may require additional assistance and more basic poses. Older students may choose this route for their level of comfort and health.

There are also asanas (the word yogis use for “pose”) that are ideal for older people interested in yoga that will target specific problem areas without injuring any body parts in the process.Staying healthy while it rains sneezes and fevers all around you can be a breeze if you take necessary precautions. We asked a battery of alternative health practitioners for tips to stay on top of monsoon malaises and this is what they said.Common monsoon ailments include rheumatism, asthma, gastroenteritis, coughs, colds and fever, fungal infections, food poisoning from eating out, and depression caused by the cloudy weather.

I recommend avoiding non-vegetarian food. The monsoon impairs the digestive system. Strengthen it by having a little ginger juice and honey every day. When suffering from diarrhoea, have one teaspoon of this mixture three to four times a day. The Trombidium pill is good for gastroenteritis. Have three pills of 30 potency every four hours.Include two green bananas, cherries, peaches, plums and pears to your daily diet and beat the cold and flu syndrome this monsoon. Should they befall you, however, make short shrift of them with a combination of two parts honey to one part lemon juice. Sip one teaspoon of this mixture five times a day. Ladyfinger soup is excellent for sore throat. Boil ladyfinger and strain. Drink the clear liquid.

Sukhasana Yoga Practice:

Spread a large size, thick bed sheet on the floor.Sit down with your legs streching forward facing either east or west. Now bend your right knee to move your legs towards you until your feet touches the left thigh.Do the same for your left leg and touch your right thigh with the feet. Now the legs remain crossed to each other.Nor strech your arms and put your palms over your knees. Your head, neck and your back should remain straight, knees should be touching the floor. Now relax your body completely and close the eyes.Let the breathing be normal. Count the number of inhalation , until it reaches15-16. It will be 1 minute by then. Sit in the pose for 2 minutes in the beginning. This is the simplest among “asanas”.

In the beginning “sukasana” may be difficult for those who are unfamiliar sitting down. Few days practice will make it perfect. This asana is not meant for a short period. Through constant training one must be able to sit in this posture for an indefenite period . This is called “sthirasukasana”The Easy Pose or Sukhasana is a relaxation pose intended for Meditation. It promotes inner calm and straightens the spine, opens the hips, and relieves tiredness. As the name suggests, this pose is very easy to do. In this section, learn how to do the Easy Pose.

Sit down on the floor or a Yoga Mat.

Cross your legs, placing your feet below your knees.

Clasp your hands around your knees.

Keep your head and body straight.

The only difference is that the feet should touch your abdomen and should be parallel to your thighs. Unlike sukasana where your fingers are visible, swasthikasana suggest to insert your leg fingers between the folds of the legs.

The Six Branches of Yoga . The word “Yoga” came from the Sanskrit word “yuj” which means “to unite or integrate.” Yoga then is about the union of a person’s own consciousness and the universal consciousness.

images:

Ancient Yogis had a belief that in order for man to be in harmony
with himself and his environment, he has to integrate the body, the mind, and the spirit. For these three to be integrated, emotion, action, and intelligence must be in balance. The Yogis formulated a way to achieve and maintain this balance and it is done through exercise, breathing, and Meditation – the three main Yoga structures.

Raja Yoga practice is to focus the mind, which is the “king” of one’s psycho-physical structure. Since the whole body is interconnected with each other, with the mind ruling one’s every thought and action, practicing hatha yoga
will be an essential first step to prepare oneself in yoga meditation. Furthermore, other forms of self-discipline and purification of the physical self also includes getting rid of old addictions such as alcohol and cigarettes, and paying close attention to your actions, thoughts, and speech. Through practicing all these, one can be fit to engage in a deeper form of yoga, which is meditation.

The objective of Raja Yoga is to control all forms of thought waves and mental modifications. It starts its Sadhana with the mind, and may also involve minimum asanas and pranayamas.

Raja Yoga is also called Ashtanga, or eight limbed yoga. It refers to the eight aspects to the path one must undergo. The eight limbs of Ashtanga Yoga are the following:
In Yoga, the body is treated with care and respect for it is the primary instrument in man’s work and growth. Yoga Exercises improve circulation, stimulate the abdominal organs, and put pressure on the glandular system of the body, which can generally result to better health.

Breathing techniques were developed based on the concept that breath is the source of life. In Yoga, students gain breathing control as they slowly increase their breathing. By focusing on their breathing, they prepare their minds for the next step – Meditation.

There is a general misconception that in Meditation, your mind has to go blank. It doesn’t have to be so. In Meditation, students bring the activities of the mind into focus resulting in a ‘quiet’ mind.
the King of Yoga and this may be due to the fact that most of its practitioners are members of religious and spiritual orders. Raja Yoga is based on the teachings of the Eight Limbs of Yoga found in the Yoga sutras.

A Raja Yogi sees the self as central, and as such, respect to oneself and for all creation are vital to this path. They achieve self-respect by first learning to be masters of themselves.

If you wish to learn discipline, then Raja Yoga would perfectly suit that need.

Jnana Yoga or Yoga of the Mind
Jnana Yoga is the path of Yoga that basically deals with the mind, and as such, it focuses on man’s intelligence. Jnana Yogis consider wisdom and intellect as important and they aim to unify the two to surpass limitations. Since they wish to gain knowledge, they are open to other philosophies and religion for they believe that an open and rational mind is crucial in knowing the spirit.

Karma Yoga or Yoga of Service
Karma Yoga is the path of service for in this path, it is believed that your present situation is based on your past actions. So by doing selfless service now, you are choosing a future that is free from negativity and selfishness. Karma Yogis change their attitude towards the good and in the process, change their souls, which leads to a change in their destiny.

Tantra Yoga or Yoga of Rituals
Perhaps the most misunderstood of all the paths, Tantra Yoga is about using rituals to experience what is sacred. Although sex is a part of it, sex is not the whole of it since this path aims to find what is sacred in everything we do. Tantra Yogis must possess certain qualities like purity, humility, devotion, dedication to his Guru, cosmic love, and truthfulness among other things.the cultivation of the mind using meditation= dhyana to further one’s acquaintance with reality and finally achieve liberation.

What is Tantra Yoga ?

The word Tantra also applies to any of the scriptures commonly identified with the worship of Shakti. Tantra deals primarily with spiritual practices and ritual forms of worship, which aim at liberation from ignorance and rebirth. Tantra is primarily concerned with inner, mystical experiences, contrary to popular notions that it is the Yoga of Sex or a form of couples’ therapy. While Tantra is a deeply personal path in this sense, the inner journey should generate the awareness that everything is connected.

Tantra or tantric is a esoteric tradition rooted in the religions of india.Modern Tantra may be divided into practices based on Hinduism and Buddhism = vajrayana. Tantra Yoga tradition was fathered by Lord Sadashiva, the original expounder of Tantra, the indigenous mystical tradition of Eastern India. This yoga is a one of the most misunderstood styles of yoga, having largely become associated with sexual ritual.Tantra Yoga deals with expanding all levels of consciousness, whether waking, dreaming or sleep states, in order to unveil and realize the Supreme Reality.

Tantra Yoga History:

Tantrics(Tantra yoga ) understand the ever-unfolding process of creation in explicitly sexual terms – the attraction and union of male and female polarities, “Shiva” and “Shakti” in the Hindu Tantric tradition. Thus, in Tantra, the experience of pleasure on a microcosmic, individual level, evokes the universal process. At peak moments of pleasure, the practitioner has an opportunity to experience merger.Sadashiva is traditionally considered the founder of Tantra and Yoga systems and the first one to introduce music, dance, medical and marriage systems to human civilization. He was a remarkable human being in whom the Supreme Being was fully manifest; as such, he was the bridge between the phenomenal and spiritual worlds, and thus fully capable of systematizing, developing and inventing tools for spiritual growth.

This exploration markedly does not limit itself to the intellect but uses all faculties available to humans. This acquisition of knowledge is never purely for the sake of knowledge but for the express purpose of enriching human life and for practical use in the exploration of its spiritual dimension.

Classical Tantra Yoga tradition asserts that this universe we live in, and are part of, is the manifestation of Brahma – the infinite, all-embracing, ever-blissful Supreme Conscious Being. It has been observed to manifest in two polar but interrelated ways: Shiva, the Eternal Consciousness, and Shakti, his creative power.Classical Tantra Yoga tradition uses two main approaches to the realization of Brahma: The first one is simply a gradual effort to release oneself from habitual or addictive behaviors. It is a preparation for the other, subtler system of practices, called yoga. Classical yoga training teaches sophisticated methods of releasing oneself from habitual behavior and deepening one’s feeling of connectedness to the Eternal Bliss.

By bringing awareness to desire and pleasure, by making a study of what truly makes us feel the vibration of life within us and around us, we can begin to function with more autonomy. We may never totally free ourselves from the cultural constructs that shape us, but if we bring awareness to our actions, recognize those constructs as nothing more than that and commit ourselves to exploring desire and pleasure, deliberately and consciously, we can begin to find ways to get off the wheel. In practical terms, this means developing new ways of approaching desire and pleasure. Desire is a powerful force that can motivate and inspire. Suppressing it entails suppressing our fundamental humanity, and most people pay a heavy price for doing this. The problem is not with desire itself but with attachment to outcomes, so as a first step, it is important to cultivate an attitude of non-attachment. To paraphrase the Vijnanabhairava Tantra, we should not focus on the object of desire. Instead, we must bring our awareness to the desire itself and recognize it as an energy that is both within and all around us.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with seeking pleasure for its own sake, but the experience of pleasure is much richer when it is both understood and fully appreciated. This is true for any experience, from eating ice cream to feeling the breeze on the skin. In the context of sexuality, the awareness of what brings you to the peak of ecstasy can be translated into reverence for your partner and for the experience itself. The erotic spark exists wherever pleasure and desire are found. It arises as a reminder that everything is divine. Recognizing this and cultivating reverence can transform you; people will feel it and reciprocate, energetically.
