What is Inner Smile Meditation? | Meditation Inner Smile | The Inner Smile Meditation
Start breathing from the mouth, but not deeply. Just let the body breathe so it becomes more and more shallow. And when you feel that the breath has become very shallow and your mouth is open and jaw relaxed, your whole body will feel very relaxed. The inner smile is an opportunity to offer a smile to oneself. It can be done in a seated meditation session or in the midst of daily life. The inner smile can also be integrated into hatha yoga practice and can be particularly helpful during intense poses.
When we are happy and relaxed, our face becomes relaxed and open. When we are tense or unhappy our face becomes tense and serious. Consciously generating the energy of a smile is a very simple and powerful way of helping to transform difficult and negatively charged energies in our body and mind by sending the energy of our smile to them.Try and you will know what it is, because it cannot be explained. No need to smile with your lips on your face but just as if you are smiling from the belly, the belly is smiling.
Initially, begin by relaxing yourself. When calm and centered, bring your awareness to the very center, inside your head.Sense a coolness in your eyes to attract and absorb the warm energy. Inhale the energy through the mid eyebrow and spiral it.Smile down to the thymus gland and the heart. Feel the heart open with love, joy, and happiness.Smile down to all the organs: the lungs, liver, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, and sexual organs and reproductive system. Thank them for their work.Return your attention to your eyes. Create a big smile and draw in more spiraling energy.
Direct your attention to your face, consciously relax all the muscles in the face from the forehead to the bottom of the chin.Raise the corners of your mouth up a few millimeters, so that your facial expression becomes that of a half smile. Feel the energy of this smile spreading through out your whole face. Now feel the energy of your inner smile gathering within your third eye area, once it has gathered there feel it flowing backward into your brain, head and neck areas. As you send the energy of your smile to your brain and other parts of your head and neck, feel them smiling back to you.
And whenever you feel that you are missing that happiness, just close your eyes and catch hold of that smile again, and it will be there. In the daytime as many times as you want, you can catch hold of it. It is always there. The inner smile can be its own complete meditation or it may lead you into an effortless meditative absorption.Remember that you can cultivate the inner smile anytime throughout the day to fill the heart with compassion.
