The pose is usually performed twice, once facing left, and once facing right. In this exercise, you build up strength in the lower back and upper legs while you remove tension from the lower and upper back, the hips and the hamstrings through both the twist and the stretching. The exercise is good for your sense of coordination and sense of balance.

Once the trunk is fully extended to the right, the right arm is dropped so that the right hand rests on the shin, on a block or on the floor, to the inside of the right foot, with the palm down.

First start with the Adho Mukha Svanasana.Raise your arms parallel to the floor and reach them actively out to the sides, shoulder blades wide, palms down.Move your left foot forward for about one meter. Begin the reach the left arm forward, drawing the left thigh upwards and tucking the hip at you come forward.Hold this position for a few seconds while holding out your breath.Take a deep breath again.

Exhaling slowly, extend your right arm downward towards the left big toe without bending the knees. While the right arm is moving downward, bend down your head and trunk slowly to the left from the waist.Rest the fingertips of the right hand on the left big toe.Raise and stretch your left arm straight up and bring it in line with your lowered right arm, keeping the left palm turned inwards.

Holding out your breath, turn your head to the left and look up quickly at the fingertips of your left hand.With your back straight and your right hip stretched backward, look at a point on the ground and breathe in and out quietly. Press your left hand against the heel and twist your chest to the left. Let the twisting motion involve only your upper back while your hip, lower back, legs and head remain stationary.
